Overview
The Tiptop Audio Buchla 248t MARF (Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator) is a highly flexible, programmable control voltage source for Eurorack modular systems. A modern recreation of the legendary Buchla Model 248 from the 1970s, the original MARF earned a mythical status as one of the most powerful control voltage generators ever made — and was certainly ahead of its time upon its original release
While it may look like a sequencer at first glance, the 248t goes far beyond that. It can function as a step sequencer, ADSR envelope generator, portamento pitch processor, or virtually any other application for stored control voltages you can imagine. With two independently addressable output sections, the 248t allows different stages to be accessed and manipulated simultaneously
Features
-
16 programmable stages with per-stage control over voltage range, timing, quantization, and interpolation (glide)
- Two independent output sections for simultaneous stage addressing
- Flexible stage behaviors — stages can be set to continuous, quantized in divisions of 12, or mapped to specific voltage ranges
- Sub-grouping of stages using Stop, Sustain, First, and Last designators to create pitch sets, envelope shapes, and cycle groupings
- Time Multiplier with dedicated knob and CV input, scaling timing values from 0.5x to 4x
- Non-volatile memory — presets are retained after powering down the module
- ART protocol output for seamless integration with the 259t and other ART-compatible modules, enabling streamlined tuning and polyphonic control
- Pulse inputs for external Start and Stop commands
- Multiple outputs including stored Voltage, stage-triggered ramp Reference, Time-proportional voltage, and two assignable Pulse outputs
- External CV addressing via inputs on the left side of the module
