Overview

Befaco RANDOM8 is an eight-channel random voltage generator that brings evolving modulation and spontaneous melodies to your Eurorack system, all in just 8 HP. Created in collaboration with Mylar Melodies, it’s designed for hands-on improvisation, helping you keep patches moving while you focus on performing.

Use it to animate filters, vary drum accents, generate quantised melodies or create smooth, complex LFO shapes. Each channel can switch between a locked loop and slowly evolving voltages with a single button press. When you hear a phrase you like, capture it instantly, then let it evolve again whenever your patch needs a new direction.

• Eight independent CV channels: Generate stepped or smooth random voltages, with a dedicated output attenuator for each channel.
• Performance-ready looping: Lock phrases of 1–32 steps per channel, switch to evolving voltages with one press, or double-tap to return to full randomness.
• Per-channel pitch quantisation: Choose from 16 options, including 14 scales, an unquantised mode and a 1V octave scale.
• Eight random voltage styles: Explore five distributions, an alternating high/low pattern and two wandering voltage styles.
• Slide control: Smooth voltage transitions for flowing modulation, complex LFO shapes and sliding pitch sequences.
• Flexible triggering: Cascading normalised trigger inputs let one trigger source drive multiple channels. Patch additional triggers to create independently clocked groups.
• Per-channel trigger division: Set each channel to advance after 1–8 incoming triggers.
• Probability and offset: Make voltage changes less frequent and shift outputs into useful modulation ranges.
• Eight preset slots: Save and recall the entire module state for different patches or performance setups.
• Simple, single-layer menus: Edit settings across channels with colour-coded LED feedback, without a screen.
• Convenient reset and updates: Reset individual channels or the whole module with long button presses, and update firmware via USB-C.
